Amazing Spider-man circa '78

To accompany my post on the 70s Japanese show, I needed to include the intro to the American Spidey show.

Spider Man TV show (70's) Intro

I love this series, though I know most hate it, especially Stan Lee. Around 87 my folks asked a 3 year old me, what I wanted for Christmas, excitedly I shouted "Spider-Man movie!" not knowing if it existed, actually I think I expected my folks to call Marvel comics and get them to make it!

But come that Christmas, there it was on VHS Spider-man, the pilot to the tv series, that like Hulk was released as a movie in the UK and from the start of that pilot intro a life-long fan was born!

Does what ever a spider-alien endowed with amazing powers can...

One thing I love is regional interpretations of popular characters/series. I'm a big fan of the US version of the Office and love the old Japanese spider-man comics. However this old school spider-man series from Japan is a gem.

spiderman japanese opening video

Instead of being Peter Parker, the hero is Takuya Yamashiro a racecar driver who sees a UFO crashing. The pilot of the craft, a spider-alien gives Yamashiro the spider-man abilities and access to his ship "the Marveller", then sends him on his mission of fighting aliens.

The origin actually has more in common with Green Lantern than spidey, but the show was the genesis of a deal between Toei and Marvel comics which ended in the creation of the Super Sentai genre, or as we know it in the west, Power Rangers. Indeed the show had a few elements of the latter, like giant aliens needing to be taken out with Spidey's giant mecha.

This was a pretty nifty show and hopefully Marvel will one day release a dvd of it here in the uk.

My site - onezom.com - is really slow at the moment. I'm wondering if the problem is with the dreamhost machine it's hosted on or something I've gubbed up. I wouldn't have thought that to be the issue due to this being a recent installation of wordpress on a new database.

Quite strange really, I might be tempted to move the site to my webfaction account once I finish the new design.

Been watching a crap load of Monty Python and South Park lately, then this little gem melds the two together, it's a priceless sketch:

Cept I'm off the stuff, well for the next few months anyway with this South Beach Diet thing I got going. It aint so bad, I've lost around 20lbs in 3 weeks, which is pretty nifty, hopefully it won't slow down too much over the coming weeks.

But anyway, the Junk Food I'm refferring to is the brand Junk Food Clothing makers of uber sweet retro shirts. I own a couple of sweet ones, Aquaman, DC Super Powers and Pepsi Challenge shirts and I've just purchased the following

http://www.80stees.com/products/The-Flash-Baseball-Shirt.asp
http://www.80stees.com/products/Boom-Box-Junk-Food-T-shirt.asp

I really can't wait till these babies get here!

Okay I’ve been listening to the Crow soundtrack again, some new arts to go with.

Think I’ve abused that brush pen with a fill-in for the last time.

Nintendo own my soul, it's true....as I mentioned my brother got me a DS lite for my birthday, I've been pretty much playing that non-stop, Phoenix Wright : Ace Attorney is possibly the funnest game ever, well that and Trauma centre. Why did I even bother with a PSP last year when these gems were on the DS?!?

The twitching in my arms says I was really drunk at my birthday drinks last night or that I'm putting far too much effort into Wii Sports Bowling, either way I'm gonna need a shit load of Lucozade...

So for the past week I've been off work, mostly vegetating, watching movie after movie. I'm drawing up a list of my definitive Yuletide viewing so far I'm thinking:

Scrooged [1988]
Scrooged [1988]

Scrooged - All time Christmas classic from my childhood...love this film

Gremlins / Gremlins 2 - The New Batch [1984]
Gremlins / Gremlins 2 - The New Batch [1984]

Gremlins 1 and 2 - so only the first takes place at Christmas, but you need to watch the second afterwards, it's as close to Looney Tunes or Tex Avery cartoons as like action gets in my opinion.

Elf [2003]
Elf [2003]

Elf - Will Ferrell is awesome plus Zooey....ah Zooey.

Charlie Brown - I Want A Dog For Christmas / A Charlie Brown Christmas
Charlie Brown - I Want A Dog For Christmas / A Charlie Brown Christmas
A Charlie Brown Christmas - love the peanuts gang and I love this special

Batman: The Animated Series, Vol. 4 (REGION 1) (NTSC)
Batman: The Animated Series, Vol. 4 (REGION 1) (NTSC)
Batman : Holiday Knights - Single episode in the last season of the 90s show, possibly the best in my mind, plenty of time devoted to Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy, the greatest criminal duo in cartoons!

Any other suggestions?

As I mentioned earlier, I picked up a Nintendo Wii yesterday, with Red Steel. Surprisingly the store was pretty empty and the process of picking up the console was an in and out job, pretty cool. Sports is fantastic, loving the golf game which is shocking because it's golf...downloaded a couple of games, Bonk's Adventure and Golden Axe, GOLDEN AXE, which are as awesome as I remember them.
With Red Steel, the keeping my arm steady for targeting the gun takes getting used to, but it's a lotta fun when you get into it, I love this console so much.

My bro got me a DS Lite, which was so awesome of him, with Viewtiful Joe. Absolutely loving playing it, especially with Mario Bros ds...such a brilliant game.

Okay I'm typing too much now, so wrap up time. Birthday drinks yesterday were great, big thank you to the friends who turned up, the presents were awesome, got a triple-bill of classic B-Movies from Joe, Leigh and Peter and Red Sonja too, which was freaking sweet, plus Peter drew an amazing birthday card for me. Andy and Franco got me a cool JLA trade that I'm looking forward to reading. Really good birthday this year, had loads of fun.

Now I'm going to curl up and moan about this headache...
